It provides predictive text in the search block

When a page is "Promoted to front page," it will appear in the predictive text in the home page search block. This is a way to make sure site visitors see the most relevant content. For example, this site has 153 results for the search term "Site Page." You can guide visitors to the best page, not just the first page that appears in a site search.

This feature works only on sites with the front page search block enabled. For sites that don't use this feature, "Promote to front page" won't do anything on your site. It won't push the content to the front page or affect the standard site search (the magnifying glass).

You can watch this video to learn how to enable the home page search block.

It is an important part of the How To content type

When you create a How To on your site, it should always have "Publish to front page" selected. All How To pages are syndicated to nc.gov, where they can be found with the predictive text on the front page search block. If it's not enabled, visitors to nc.gov will not find your content.
Starting mid January 2024 "Publish to front page" will be selected by default when you create a How To page.

It's important that you use the full path of your website in the URL field of the Contact Website section. If the path begins with "/", it will be a broken link on nc.gov.

"Sticky at top of list" is not a thing

This is a default Drupal feature, but it is not employed on the Digital Commons platform. Selecting it won't affect the content or the search.
