New Features

Updates to the Disclaimer & Terms of Use and Privacy Policy on NC.gov. were made at the request of the NCDIT Privacy Team

Fixes

  • Quick Links Component - Some of the links were dropped when the "More" CSS Style was applied in a one-column band. This has been fixed.
  • Font Weight on Event Cards - The date fields for the Event Card ad Article Card should be the same weight; the weren't so we fixed it.

Accessibility Improvements for WCAG 2.1 AA

  • Home Pages using the Home Search box were missing the H1 heading for the Page Title in the code.
  • Focus Indicators on Links - When using the Tab key to navigate pages via the keyboard, the focus indicator around top links in the Main Menu appeared jagged and lumpy instead of a smooth rectangle. When the submenu was active, the focus indicator lacked sufficient contrast from the rollover color and the sides of the focus indicator were cropped off. Focus indicators were also jagged and lumpy on the Blog Grid View and Past Events List View. All focus ring issues were corrected to be both accessible and more visually attractive.
  • Spotlight Component - The button link did not have sufficient contrast on all of the six different color palettes when a light background color was used. Also, leaving some fields empty created empty headings which is inaccessible for users and creates EditoriA11y alerts. Additionally, f the Link Text field was left empty, the Featured Article link showed the URL path. All of these issues were corrected, but in so doing, a new issue was created that had to be fixed on the Required Field Error Alerts.
  • Required Field Error Alerts - The error message that appears when you fail to enter information in a required field for a component lacked sufficient contrast. It was consistent for the Spotlight, Carousel, and Tab/Accordion and sporadic for other components. This has been corrected.
  • Carousel Component - Similar to the issue with the Spotlight, the Carousel button link did not have sufficient contrast upon hover.
  • Tabs/Accordion - When keyboard users navigate with the Tab key, the focus order should only jump to interactive elements, like the caret to expand the Accordion content or the Tabs to show the Tabs panel content. The Tabs/Accordion Component was also including the collapsed content in the tab focus order, making keyboard users have to go through every bit of content, slowing them down. The tab order was fixed to allow keyboard users to skim the interactive buttons so they have control over selecting the content they want to expand rather than being forced to consume it all.
  • The Department of Public Safety used our new Accessibility service to review their website. The Juvenile Justice Directory had many issues. Because a third party created the data reports, we could not fix those, but since we created a custom module using the data, we were able to fix the errors within the module used to display the data.
