NC Disaster Recovery Portal

Chart Usability on Mobile
Improvements to the Chart component were quickly implemented for NCDHHS Division of Public Health due to the summer Cyclosporiasis outbreak. On mobile, the chart defaulted to a data table for usability, but being able to visually display the infection curve is very important in public health as it quickly communicates trends better than a data table. Since half or more of DHHS site visitors use mobile, the Chart component was made to scroll sideways. This lets mobile users see the chart at a large enough size that it is usable so they can quickly grasp the infection curve. This quick improvement also helps with the Division's efforts to track Measles cases.
Updates & Fixes
Horizontal Rule in Print
Last sprint we added the horizontal rule to text fields. While it displayed on screen, it did not appear when the web page was printed. Mark Colebank fixed this, so you should now see horizontal rules when web pages are printed. You can print this blog to test it.
Display Date of Last Update
Last sprint we distributed the "Display Date of Last Update" checkbox option to all content types. Originally, the checkbox was underneath the main content field for the given content type, which meant it was in different places on the page across the various content types. To give you a more consistent user experience, we moved this option to appear just above the Save button.
CTA Card with Icon
This was discovered during Basic Training when learners add a new CTA Card to the page. When the component was saved, the page would jump to the top of the page instead of where the new CTA Card was placed. This only happened when an icon was selected for the CTA Card- the unwanted motion did not happen on cards without an icon. This has been fixed so that you can immediately see what you have added to the page without landing at the top and having to scroll back down to where you were.
Accessibility
Broken ARIA Label on H1
For the Employee Directory on NC.gov and for the Search pages across the platform, an ARIA label was broken. The H1 needed to include id="page-title" and now it does.
Accordion Tabs Missing Heading Level
In the Tabs/Accordion component, the Accordions had heading markup but the Tabs did not. We fixed it so that both Tabs and Accordions have proper headings.
